This brings up my most humiliating failure, both technical and emotional.I had the Rega Planar 2 (I think it was called). It cost about $150 used about five or six years ago. Anyway, I am a fairly calm person, and have only pooched one cartridge during setup in many years.
However, I was driven insane by this table. I mounted several cartridges myself, and all sounded terrible on the standard arm. Then, I took the damn thing to a dealer and had a cart mounted by an "expert" (a Blue Point cart as I recall), and I still had tracking problems.
I tried another cartridge and finally the unthinkable happened: I trashed a good cartidge during setup. I had switched out four or five carts by then, and I was at the end of my rope.
In a fit, for which I am ashamed, I literally threw the Rega in the trash. I should have given it away, but I was MAD. As in REALLY mad.
I just hated that thing.
