I'm a born-again newbie to vinyl. I just connected my turntable to my system, after many years of disuse.I just played (loud) my old Alan Parsons "Gaudi" album, and the title track "La Sagrada Familia" almost had me in tears -- what an awesome sound! There is a rightness about the treble that I only get in the high-res formats (never from CD), and the overall naturalness of sound was a revelation (plus it's an awesome track).
However, from my other 1980s vintage albums, not all of which have the detail and sounstage of "Gaudi", I have noticed a reduced soundstage, a slightly nasal sound to the voices, a muddy bass, and a slightly rolled-off top end (not quite as transparent and open) compared to the best digital.
Is this my system, or is it one of my components? Some of you may know my gear, so I thought I'd ask. You can look up my system, but the front end is:
Denon DP-45F table
Shure V15 Mark IV cartridge
Rega Moving Magnet phono preampI'm thinking it might be a combination of getting used to vinyl sound, and perhaps the relatively-cheap Rega (or perhaps the cartridge isn't up to today's standards?)
Anyway, any help you could give me towards Vinyl bliss would be helpful. I want to enjoy my old collection again.
Thanks - Neil
