A tale of 2 ScoutMasters

Merle, I bought a SM about 1 month before you did. At first listen, I wasn't sure I had made an upgrade from my Music Hall MMF-7. The SM had better PRAT, but that seemed to be all that it had. Then I bought a Dynavector 20xl and put on the SM in place of the Goldring Elite which i had taken off the 7 and put on the SM as a temperary measure. I put it back on the 7. The Dyna made me realize that the Elite was not a good match for the SM. It is a good match on the 7. Then I played a bit with the VTA which made it even better. I then built a sandbox for the SM. Again more improvement. I still wasn't sure that the SM would trounce my 7, so I a/b'd the 2. At first I thought the 7 was gonna hang in there. And it did, till about the second verse when it became obvious that the 7 was no match for the SM. It lacked bass, PRAT, and a sense of presence which the SM has in spades. The 7 sounded thin in comparison. Don't get me wrong. The MMF-7 IMO is still the best bargain in its class IMO. There's a good reason for it being Stereophile's bargain component of the year. it is good, but the ScoutMaster outclassed it. But I wasn't sure at first. It took time to get the bugs worked out. But my persistance paid off.
Meanwhile, I'm glad you are satisfied with your new table also
