Re: The Musical Surrounding Phonomena has input loading settings as low as 30 Ohms

Hi Tom, I do remember your inquiry a while back regarding our not-often-mentioned Eroica. When I first purchased the turntable (used) it was without cartridge, and it was at that time I decided to experience a LO MC which then required the requisite gain and flexible loading capabilities of a pre-amp like the Musical Surroundings Phonomena. This foray into MC territory with the revealing nature of Solid State devices paired with NHT speakers was not without some initial pitfalls. Low output moving coils requiring high gain preamps and full-range amplification--I usurped my home theater's five-channel Outlaw amp to bi-amp the 3.3's--revealed other flaws in my system setup: Power line noise, rca cable upgrades, component re-location, etc.. Each of these issues had to be addressed. If anything, the listening environment has to cater to this new transducer! It can be a pain to deal with.

But also, the end result can be more than worth it. Thinking about it tells me it's in your future, but you're certainly more informed at this point than I was in my "thinking about it" stage. For me, there were frowns before the grins, but as you stated, "I am really enjoying the music these days now that everything has broken in nicely."

These guys in here, however, threaten to wreck my peace time and time again with all this toy talk and technical expertise. It's a good thing I don't have deep deep pockets :-)
