I have a MkIII that I purchased used. It had been modded - outfitted for 78 rpm, Corian plinth by Hollywood Sound. The listings did not state that the platter had been upgraded, so I assumed it was a stock black Delrin platter that came with the rig back in the day.Your description of the MkIV-slash-TNT platter caused my little red antennae to poke up. The underside of the platter I have is cork (I did not saw it open to find out if it was lead or steel inside). Was this SOP for the MkIII (i.e. did it have a cork bottom originally), or does this indicate that the platter was upgraded a some point?
If it is updated, I guess I must further assume that the bearings or or the spindle hole were also modified, because from what I've read on this board, the leap from MkIII to MkIV required much more work than simply swapping the platter out.
Thanks for any clues you can provide,
Pete.
