Welcome Licorice Pizza (LP) lovers! Setup guides and Vinyl FAQ.

I've played some NOS LPs and

surprisingly, they were not the quietest I have.

Case in point, yesterday I listened to the Brahms string sextets, which I had just unwrapped: I was very happy with the pieces (how can I still be missing some Brahms!) and the performances, but the background was not black; no clicks, no dust, but a vague hearing that a record is turning behind the music (I blame RCA).

Now, tonight I've returned from the thrift and I'm having a Mahler orgy, and these records have a background that is as black as a CD --- through electrostatic headphones!

To each his own, but I don't think that new records are the way to audiophile nirvana, even if that's your goal (and luckily it isn't mine).
