Re: Luxman PD-277 vs PD-289 ?

Hi Steve. I posted this privately, but am re-posting here for the archives.

DISCLAIMER: I'm no expert on Luxman turntables; I don't even own one.

Good question and both are good decks. I have no direct experience with either, however, so cannot account for the price differential. The PD-277 still seems to hold more value than the 289.

I'm with you. My guess, and it's only that, is because the 289 came out as vinyl was waning and CDs were really taking hold in the mid-80s, Luxman may have cheapened the build quality. Here's a good post/review of the 284 on Audiogon, which is a variant of the 289. There's a comment that the 277 may have a better arm.

Frankly, I don't think you could go wrong with either one.
