Grüß Dich Ernie!Depending on the gain of the phono section a 1:10 trannie can give good volume results, especially since it loads the cartridge at 470ohms.
My horn speakers are 100dB and I use a 2 watt amp and can be VERY loud in a 600-800 sqft room.
But the difference is I and others with the higher ratio trannies load the cartidge at or below the DC resistance of the cartridge, 40ohms in the case of the 103. That's when you need a much higher gain ratio than 1:10.
