Thanks for the background. I have a laptop with a CD burner too but have chosen the stand alone recorder road.I am curious to know if you noticed whether the Onkyo was imparting its own sound to the recording. I found that I could pick recordings done on the Fostex (from both analog and digital sources)as they were a tad brighter or forward sounding compared to the Tascam or Philips. The playback machines could have been a factor but I thought there was a consistency there. Perhaps its something to do with the particular ADC on the Fostex.
