Vinyl Asylum Welcome Licorice Pizza (LP) lovers! Setup guides and Vinyl FAQ. |
|
Greetings all!I'm new to the world of vinyl. My father recently passed on his Pioneer PL41 to me. It is in goregous condition, I watched it sit on a shelf at my parents house for the past 20 or so years, and I know he barely used it before that. All parts appear to be completely original. I've also inherited a great number of what should be amazing records from a coworker. Many great full length opera recordings by the best voices of the past century. I've been looking forward to playing them for some time.
What I'm looking for is advice on how to get the most out of the table and records. I'm running it through my Sansui AU7700. How does one go about getting the counter weight on the arm into the proper position? Should I invest in a better cartridge or stylus? Perhaps rewiring? I tested it out on a couple of less desirable records and experienced quite a few pops. Is that due just to the record? Bad wiring? Cartridge? Also the brass/percussion tutti sections seem to be harsh and distorted.
I'd appreciate any input or advice. Again, I'm new to the whole audiophile thing. Thanks!
Brian
