Were examples of matrix encoded LPs that attempted to encode two additional channels of information by adding out of phase information. The amount and how it was combined varies from the different vendors but all of it is farily similiar.Playing it back in stereo can yield a variety of effects. The degree of effect is strictly dependant on your rig and system setup. Out of phase information is exactly what it sounds like and things as subtle as speaker placement can yield interesting results.
I have bipolar speakers (Magnepans) and certain quad LPs yield some interesting instrument placement. Sometimes it just sounds like a different mix...
