I went with the Hammond 12x8x3 Al chassis which was something like $25 or $30 w/lid. I didn't have to bend metal but I had to make all the holes. For this I used drills, files, hole saws, and a jigsaw (power hole is rectangular). I then used JB weld to fill in the voids at the corners and painted them (one for my clarinet, too) with black hammertone paint (it hides minor imperfections nicely). They look great, imho. I just wish I had put handles on the top like other are doing these days... I'll do that someday but it requires a complete disassembly. It was quite a bit of work but I had the tools from other projects so the materials cost for each chassis was probably about $40.
