Re: Experiences with Linn tonearm cable?

I assume you are referring to the "T" Kable (I think that is what it is called). It is the "silver cable" version of the arm cable. Anyway, I have an Arkiv B on an Ekos that is fed to a Linto phono stage. The new arm cable was a significant improvement. The first thing I noticed was that high frequencies were smoother and more extended. The overall tonal balance is much more even as well. The other unexpected benefit was a reduction in surface noise - presumably resulting from a better impedance match and higher frequency throughput that resulted with less electrical ringing.

The down side was that it was a real pain to dress and setup the arm cable correctly. It is thicker and just a stiff as the original cable. It was also less "willing" to hold the 90 degree bend. The P clip is of a different design as well, but it doesn't make it any easier to adjust. After much fiddling, I did adjust it so that the bounce with and without the cable connected was the same. That was at least two years ago, and it has been stable since then, so it seems to stay where it should once properly adjusted.

Is it worth the price? I wouldn't do it on anything less than an Ekos/Lingo/Cirkus LP12 using a very good MC cart and an excellent phono stage. Otherwise, you might not hear the differences. For me, it was well worth it, but it is on par with upgrading to Neuance shelves that cost substantially less.

Enjoy!
