Hi JDi think i posted on the difference in sound between 501& 301 (both
in loricraft plintths) some time ago but here is my summbary again... compared to the 501, the 301 shows a kind of rich dark rubbery majesty in addition to rolled off highs. the 501 is flatter, cleaner, more neutral, more transparent and considerably more extended top to bottom. it is much quieter. and it has a more powerful motor. my guess is that the 501 could be improved by bit-by-bit by material-choice tweaking (platter, bearing, plinth, etc). but its design & execution is quite remarkable as is. as-is, i think the 501 would behard to beat ( i have not heard the 501 against the great belt-drives of today but i gut feeling tells me that i would pick the 501 over any of them).
