Re: A question for you tube guys. How do you quiet down noisy tubes at startup?

A lot of tube gear has a mute function that delays the output signal for between 15 and 30 seconds to avoid amplifying tube warmup noise.

Tubes make all sorts of interesting noises as they warm up and I wouldn't worry about it, especially in a high gain circuit like a phono amp. It may eventually last 20 to 30 seconds.

On the other hand, if the unit eventually develops intermittent or continuous hissing or spitting you may have a bad tube or a cold solder joint on a tube socket.

For now just think of it as tube middle age... ;-)
