I like it a lot. I have one handed down from my father and I am very impressed with it. You're right, it is a good starter table, but delivers great DD sound, in my opinion. The cart I am using on it is the AT-120E. Excellent and quality music reproduction with this combination. No complaints since I've had it. I will definitely keep it and add a belt-drive to my listening pleasure in the future. But I like the 1900 enough that I don't plan on ever ditching it completely.
I did buy an almost mint condition one off of eBay for my own son to use, and to have the extra table for parts if need be in the far future. One note, though, I was not really impressed with it until recently when I upgraded it and the rest of my set-up. The cartridge helped immensely. I bought my AT cart from Garage-A-Records.
I'll be glad to assist you in any other details I can provide.
Also, I have done NO maintanence on mine, as far as lube, oil, etc. My Dad never did either, and he bought it in 1975 or so, when they were first made. I beleive that is a testament in itself to the build quality.
