I know the Series II non improved is 10.5 gram effective mass. I think you will find that it performs a lot like the other detachable headshell model tonearms.The shure will like the Series III a great deal better, but it is very smooth and liquid, and it may make the Shure sound a bit tame.
If that becomes an issue with you, try the Series II Improved WITH silicone dampening. This will give you a more immediate and decisive sound while still providing a relaxed overall presentation.
I equate the series II Improved with silicone dampening to sitting row 10-15 center seat.
Really fun and detailed overall.
The Series III sounds more like row 25-35.
I hope this helps.....my review of the Series II Improved and Series III arm is on its way. I need about another 100 hours of comparison before I put anything in print.
