I discovered the same thing about finger-tight connections and it led me to wonder about the clamped-down-tight approach to vinyl on my VPI TNT. When I went to a clampless "Ringmat," a silly-looking piece of paper and cork, I was amazed at the openness and musicality. Now use a graphite Boston Audio Mat I (the first thing I liked better than the Ringmat), but I was glad to see the last of the clamp when I sold the TNT.
