But more importantly, in the case of structural feedback with a "springy" floor (the turntable on a platform supported by the floor), it can prevent the woofer from exciting the resonance of the "structural system" (oscillation) which can cause the platter (sprung suspension) to suddenly flop violently, with the stylus bouncing on the record. (I've seen this happen on several occasions.)
