It's a cleaner and not a preservative, so use it whenever the stylus is visibly dirty. If your stylus picks up a dust bunny or fur coat, give it a brushing ;-)My records are generally pretty clean, so I tend to use Sylast much more often than the LP #9. Stylast needs to be applied each time stylus makes contact to vinyl.
