they are used to dust off negatives. i havent seen one lately and i am not really sure they are still available. my friend used them and liked them a lot.as for radioactive materials, ten half lives and its GONE! and yes, a zerostat is likely better in that it is directable, and doesnt wear out so quickly, its operating device is a crystal. i resurrected my old one by tightening the screw to the xtal ever so slightly.
