Re: sumiko blue point vs budget MM

I bought the original Blue point after reading the first glowing review, way back in the early 90's. It was a P-mount cartridge that had an adapter to work as a 1/2" mount. It had an exiting sound, a real thrill (for the $99 that it cost), for about an hour. Then you realized that its' weaknesses made it to shrill to live with.

I bought a Grado Signature TLZ and moved on rather happily until I decided to try a few "bargain" MM and MC cartridges a few years ago.
Things sure have improved in the bargain cartridge world in the last 15 years or so...

If you want a brighter cartridge try an AT440ML, for a more laid back sound try a Shure M97xE. Both are well under $100, exactly where the Sumiko blue point should still be priced.
