Years ago, I bought one of these second-hand, cheap. It was manufactured (and made) in Sweden, not sure about other countries though. On the package it says that "STAT-O-MATIC removes any static on the record surface, because it is electrically conductive. Your dealer can perform the test with an ohm-meter". Although the mat is made of rubber, it is claimed to lead the static charge through the grounded platter. Sounds strange, or? Maybe some sort of conductive surface coating?Well, I just performed the ohm-meter test, and the mat is absolutely non-conductive! Was this mat ever supposed to work, or was it just the biggest April fool of the 70's?
Best regards,
//Peter
