Assuming your tube stage's phono section provides about 40-dB gain, a 1:15 step-up transformer should work well. If you need to alter the load for better sound, you should load the secondary of the transformer. As it stands, 47k-ohms on the secondary will reflect a 209-ohms load to the cartridge. This could work just fine, but you might get even better sound with a heavier load. The instructions for the OC9 say it should see a 20-ohm load with a step-up transformer. You can accomplish this by placing 1% 4.99k-ohm resistors on the transformer’s secondaries. Y-adapters can be used to accomplish this task.Experimentation is the key to finding the proper load for the secondary of the transformer. It is unlikely that you would want to place a lower value resistor than 4.99k-ohms on the secondary, but you might find that a higher value resistor sounds even better. In other words, it might be beneficial to try several different values and pick the value that sounds best.
Good luck,
John Elison
