From snooping around when I was buying a new VPI table I was told that the Scoutmaster isn't better per se but different and you may prefer the sound. Most people who have heard both say both tables are very good so for the money, since the Scoutmaster is less expensive, the Scoutmaster does "kill" the Aries 2 from a value perspective.I choose the Aries 2 because I thought it had a greater sense of weight and solidity to everything. The Scoutmaster was faster, true, but I didn't want that. In addition, the sig other and I both thought the Scoutmaster looked odd and unbalanced (aesthetically not mechanically) as opposed to the Aries which looked marvelous in the piano black. May not matter to you but I hope my experiences prove helpful. As always, go listen if you can and make a decision. As I said earlier I felt the Aries 2 had more weight and gravitas behind everything. The background did seem darker. The Scoutmaster was very quiet and agile with great PRAT. Have fun!
