I know because I did it.
I owned an ITTOCK and always removed the arm to tighten the cartridge
screws until one day when I wasn't feeling so well.
I became lazy. I tightened the cartridge without first removing the ITTOCK and damaged the bearing. Just ever so lightly could
you tell anything was wrong. But that's all it took.
Cost to repair the saphine bearing? $660.00 for a pair of
metal bearing for a Ekos. Plus labor and shipping back to Scottland.
Rega RB900 took care of that problem.Carefull
