Great experiment, and thanks for sharing your findings. Its pretty amazing the disparity in prices between cartridges, but not performance. It makes you wander about why a certain price is set for a high end cartridge? Is it because someone thinks there is a market for it? The more it costs the more people want it? I am sure there are some $2000 cartridges out there that totally stomp the Shure. Maybe a Koetsu for instance. Could be the Audioquest is just one of those overpriced cartridges that was compared to one of the best known bargains in cartridges. If you enjoy this sort of thing you might want to pick up a Denon DL103-R as well, and see how it compares to the other two. Being a MC you will likely find the HF is better than the Shure, and the DL103s have great midrange and bass. This could be the cartridge that really gives the audioquest a run for the money.
