Re: DJ turntables

I have found that Audio Technica cartridges are very, very good matches with Technics turntables. I have an AT331 and am extremely pleased with it. I've heard many, many good things about the AT440.

I'm not familiar with the SL-B2, but here's a story you might find helpful. I listened to a Technics SL-BD22 for years. Thought it was perfectly fine. And it is a pretty solid low-priced belt drive table. Then I bought a SL-1200. And I quickly discovered that being able to adjust things such as VTF and VTA make a BIG, BIG DIFFERENCE in sound quality. VTA in particular.

So, if the SL-B2 doesn't let you tweak the adjustments, you might want to consider getting a turntable that does.

People here will try to talk you out of the SL-1200 because of (1) the DD motor and (2) the arm. But I looked at two Music Hall models, the MMF-2 and the MMF-5, and was not bowled over. That's HERESY on this board, I know, but I chose the SL-1200 (which I got for $400 new) and don't regret my decision one bit.
