Re: Ortofon counterpoint

Yep the ortofon is definately very quiet. (and smooth)
I think the problem with me is the old fashioned light weight tonearm. 7 gram. They don't make them that light anymore. And the oms are a modern cart designed for modern arms. The specs for the OM state 5 grams but I weighed it in at 4.2 grams and needed to put a small blob of blue tack on the headshell to get reach the correct tracking force.
My suspicion is that if I couldn't track the inside tracks then there must be already be something not quite the right going on in the begining tracks, degrading the sound a bit.
Maybe the most important thing to come out of all this is the tonal differences. The OMs seem to be more on the analytical side of things and the ATs on the Euphonic side. And everyone has different tastes for sure. And I know, from unortharised adjusting of other peoples equalizers on their systems, It very soon gets resets. I quess we are all listening for different things, or at various stages of deafness.
