Star Man-As one who has used both OM-10 and a variety of AT carts (92, 316, 440) I agree that the AT treble is smoother and silkier. OTOH, the OM-10 bass is stronger and more extended, and the overall output is higher (excepting the 440), resulting in a lower S/N floor. For quite awhile, I was alternating between the OM-10 and the AT316, and the differences were noticeable but not earthshaking, depending on the program material.
I'd hardly call the OM-10's sound tinny, and the fact that you were getting mistracking in the center of the record indicates an alignment problem. The OM-10 is not as good a tracker as the AT440, but it is as good as the 316, and you should not be getting that problem.
Next time you get the upgrade bug, try the Audio Technica At440ML. At $100, it's probably the best bargain in vinyl. It's smooth-sounding, yet with plenty of detail, it tracks even worn records cleanly, and it has plenty of output. It may not be 3 times as good as the 110E, but it's not 3 times worse than the Shure V-15 either!
Regards,
Chuck
