Found this 1962 African Sounds record in my boxes, and I am amazed at the poor knowledge found in the old fashioned liner notes(see the photo). The author states " Hawaiian tradition" even though this song has no sound or anything found in Hawaiian music. On top of that, he goes onto say that the Hawaiian sounds fit perfectly with Afrikaan sounds. Hell, the song is totally Afrikaan and he totally misses that it was written by a black South African in 1939!! The writer was Solomon Linda who died penniless in 1962, the very year this record was published. How sad. Further, Pete Seeger changed the name of the song to "Wimoweh," and his Weavers made a ton of money from it with no royalties given to Solomon Linda.
