I understand the emptiness that happens with the loss of an animal companion. I had 3 labs, absolutely glorious, wondrous, and crazy dogs. But as it happens they had the privilege of growing olld, and then sick and frail and then they died. They did this sequentially over a couple of years. Their absence left a deafening silence in the house.
During this time my wife was quite ill and in additon to taking care of my animal companions, I had to take care of her.
She died in October 2023, and as sad and empty as it seemed when my dogs died, her death was a blow to me that has still not ended.
We had been together since 1969.
Why do I even share this, I am not entirely sure, except to say, that love is such a wonderful and powerful emotion and yet so filled with grief and sadness at the end
If you are lucky enough to have people or animals in your life that you love, let them know it while you can, Anything and eveerything can be taken from you
