A short sounds like a good idea also. This might nave happened with

the RCA connector on my Dual 1229. After nearing the loud hum, I unscrewed the connector and found a broken solder connection. That broken wire may have then touched another part of the connector creating a short. I wish I had observed that, but I just made a whole new RCA connector and forgot to research.
