RE: A silly post

None of that has anything to do with the media format. If you want to preserve the sound of vinyl, simply make a high-resolution digital recording of it and it's yours forever. The same thing applies to analog tape.

Peter Ledermann of Soundsmith used to make playable master lacquers on his own cutting lathe. He would sell these for $100 each. Of course, this was several years ago so I'm sure the price would be much higher today. However, I listened to one of his playable master lacquers and it was simply exquisite when it came to sound quality. It had virtually no surface noise, unlike vinyl, and it was exceedingly musical. Consequently, I believe that digital recordings could be produced that sounded equally impressive simply by cutting a playable master lacquer and immediately making a high-resolution digital recording of it. The cost would be minimal because there would be no need for the expense of producing a vinyl record. All you would need is a cutting lathe, a very high quality turntable and a high-resolution digital recorder like the TASCAM DA-3000 DSD recorder.

I have more than 70 DSD128 recordings made from vinyl records using my TASCAM DA-3000 and they sound identical to vinyl records. Therefore, I believe that digital is the answer for preserving the sound of vinyl or the sound of analog tape. On the other hand, the best sound quality I've heard to date comes from DSD256 recordings from dealers like Native DSD, HDTT, etc.

Happy listening!
