and whichever method you find is sufficient is OK by me, but long ago and I think it was here I came across the 'slow drift method on the runout dead wax'. I still use a CannonBall Adderly record because it's pretty wide and I put the stylus on there and watch it drift inward. You also must be adept with using the cue control, speed/steadiness etc.
no AS or not enough - watch out!!
too much - stays still or proceeds outward
just right - stylus proceeds inward at the rate of the run out groove and follows it along.
Why the innermost part of the record? Because that is where it's most critical where velocity is lowest and most prone to any kind of mis-tracking
And it's a very simple way of verifying that you're good to go. Pay no attention to the A.S. markings on whatever tonearm you're using. The only other sure fire way is to buy a linear TT
