I tried an RB-250 back when they were in vogue. Did all the usual things, re-wire, dropped counterweight, etc. It was no better than the SME II or the II Improved (a misnomer if there ever was one) which isn't saying a lot.

The real "giant-killer" of the Eighties and Nineties was the Audio Technica AT-1005, straight out of the box. Likely no one here has had the pleasure but there you jolly well are, aren't you.
