Sorry about that distraction. The same thing happened to me a couple

of weeks ago, but at least the winning bid was $18 more than I was going to bid. I had even retrieved my beat up old Rolex watch with a sweeping second hand, and I shook it to get it wound up again. I ended up talking to my son at a restaurant as the final seconds ticked away. I forgot about the whole thing until we got home, and there was my stupid watch next to a print of the eBay auction.

My biggest distraction was at an auction house. Four boxes of jazz LPs were one of the last auctions of the night, and I stood for three hours waiting. I felt like I fell asleep standing up after those three hours, and I finally came to as a guy was picking up a record box and hauling it outside. I thought maybe he had just won one box, and I quickly bid on the next one. Turned out he won all four boxes, and my bid was for ladies clothes or something. The auctioneer saw I was confused and allowed me to retract my winning bid for ladies clothes. He said that was my one and only mistake at his auction house and watch out in the future.
I have never forgotten that loss of all those jazz LPs. It would have been my biggest haul ever, and each 12 X 12 X 16 box went for $20. The auction house closed forever during the pandemic.
