Recently I have been having the same thoughts as you regarding older lps. I was born in 1961 and my lp collections has many records that were pressed before I was born. Once in a while I come across one of these records that is in mint condition and I marvel at how it has survived for so long and is able to remain in mint condition.
I also am amazed when listening to classic jazz music that was recorded in the 1930s thru 1950s (ellington, goodman, etc). Just yesterday I was listening to a lionel hampton record in which johnny hodges and jess stacy were the sidemen. I am very fortunate that I am able to enjoy the music that was recorded over 80 years ago.
As to the hifi aspects of those records, they may not be of audiophile quality but they are very enjoyable once you forget about the hifi aspects of the recording and just concentrate on the music.
