RE: Same song from CD

I note your lack of comment to my previous suggestion.....so I'll repeat it given that you are only going to get opinions based on very little information. Post the (corrected) pink noise response as I suggested earlier and then you will have a better chance of diagnosing any issues.
Have you validated the response of the phono pre-amp with an inverse RIAA module and a white noise test tone? The response of the phono preamp may be adding to what the cartridge is doing.
The other thing you need to understand is that modern cartridges appear to no longer be designed for a perfectly flat response, but are voiced according to subjective listening preferences. The Shure audiophile curve introduced with the M97xE and V15TypeVxMR seems to have been taken up by other manufacturers; the response curves I have measured for my Ortofon 2M Blue, Denon DL110, DL301/II, plus a review I have seen of the Ortofon Quintet Bronze all show similar trends of a sweetened top end and slight emphasis in the 100 to 200Hz region. On the other hand, my DL304 and OC9MLII, V15TypeV measure essentially flat through the brilliance band with a slight rise above 20kHz and these sound very neutral and clean. The response of the SL1500C built-in phono stage also shows a bass emphasis in a review I read.

The OC9XEN is a low end MC and I fully expect it to be voiced similar to the trends of the other cartridges mentioned in the same price bracket. The original OC9ML/II was often criticized as too bright and clinical. The OC9III partially addressed this, but the OC9X series are different again. In other words, the cartridge probably isn't at fault, but perhaps not matched to your "preference".
