I'm not a Thorens fan but that looks like a big chunk of cork or plastic and I thought maybe that was making it sound a bit unimpressive.But then cartridges can do it too. When I owned a Planar 3 I used to really like the Dynavector 10x4. But after I moved to the Roksan and up the Dynavector line I discovered myself being unimpressed with TT demos if they were using to 10x4. Or a Blue Point. Even worse a good TT/cart combo running into the Creek phono section.
Lots of stuff can spoil a demo of a turntable and it seems the better the table the more susceptible it will be to cart and phono section. But even a platter mat could F it all up.
Who knows - it too is a very impressive looking turntable.
Having said all that I'm often disappointed the sound of high priced turntables. They often sound more lifeless than I prefer them to sound.
