I have an SL 10 with a problem of some sort with the arm/arm carrier. You put a record on the platter, close the lid and press start, then the platter spins up as normal, the arm lowers to the record but then the arm continues to move towards the centre of the record as if you're pressing the cue forwards button. You can hear the arm motor whirring continuously after a small click sound when the arm is first lowered to the record.
I have tried in both auto and manual and the same thing happens when the record is first lowered to the outer groove of the LP; whirring of the arm motor, with the arm then moved quite quickly to the centre of the LP (potentially damaged the record and stylus if I let it happen).
I have read of common issues of arms sticking on these Technics but haven't come across one where the arm motor keeps dragging the arm to the centre. Does anyone have any ideas what the issue might be?
