It is a very effective cleaning agent in a US machine.
I constructed a DIY US machine for about $400. The addition of US to my cleaning regime resulted in a significant improvement in cleaning effectiveness.
Over time a microscopic layer of grunge becomes bonded to LP grooves. Even after a deep vac clean I would still hear a low level whoooosh-shhhhh sound. US cleaning almost completely removes this layer and resulting sound degradation. Some vintage LPs now have a noise floor that is lower than than the rest of my system. Transient response is much better. There is a marked increase in air and space around musicians.
