1. That is unusual to see that in a Rega turntable IMO. Seems like it was improperly stored at one time.

2. I think you want to think about matching the cartridge to your system perhaps. At that price point, however, I don't think that should be a concern, though not knowing anything specific about the Ania.

I suggest you get it replaced under warranty, certainly. Don't know if it would impact the sound, but it does impact the esthetics, making it look cheap like it was ready to melt or something.
