Thanks, but I did download the service manual and went through all of the suggestions (as I mentioned) to no avail. The weird thing is that the tonearm moves fluidly when the table is on it's side (while cleaning/adjusting) but returns to binding when horizontal.

I'm pretty sure it correlates to the fact that the auto-start function doesn't work...
