Anyone familiar with Realistic Lab 500 turntable?

I picked up a Lab 500 table the other day, and it played fine at the seller's home. By the time I tested it out today I found that the tonearm is binding, and the auto-start function is not lifting the tonearm & placing it on the record. I took a look at all of the trouble-shooting from the service manual, and did a thorough cleaning of the old lubrication, but to no avail.

I'm considering removing the automatic functions & just using this as a manual table, but would like to try one more time to get this figured out.
