Yes, remove the platter if you are able. After the plastic clip is removed, the platter should lift straight up. If it doesn't, it's stuck and will have to be freed as I indicated in my email.
Actually, if you can see the platter spin freely, independently of the spindle inside it, it shouldn't be stuck and you just need to lift a little harder while rotating the platter back and forth a bit.
