Okay, I'm 72 and my first high-end turntable was a Thorens TD-125 with a SME 3009 Series II tonearm and a Shure V-15 phono cartridge as well as a Stanton 681EE. This must have been in 1971 when I was 23-years old. I set up my turntable and aligned the cartridge, but it wasn't by trial and error. I read the instructions. It was easy because I learned how to read in elementary school. I still read instructions when I buy something new.
Good luck,
John Elison
