As I rotated cartridges, my eye fell upon the replacement's cantilever. The cartridge dressed neither left nor right, but down, the cantilever out of line with the generator: in short, the angle of the dangle just weren't right. Soundsmith had refurbished the cartridge (an EMT-based MC) about six years ago and I'd had it in regular rotation since then. I've no idea how I'd bent the cantilever but southward bound it was. With a sigh, I mailed the cartridge back to Soundsmith.
I was braced for another $400USD rebuild but instead Soundsmith realigned the cantilever and recalibrated the cartridge. Turn around time? About two weeks, going back and forth across an international border. The charge? Return postage only. I'm happily listening to the revenant as I type.
I can't promise that Soundsmith offers a guarantee for life, but this kind of service merits attention and praise.
Thank you, Soundsmith!
