I have lived in NYC apartments ever since I first decided to DIY a TT shelf (ten or so years now). That is to say, there are no wood studs to use because of city code. This left me with only one option, which was to bolt the thing to the sheetrocked walls.

Compared to when my TT was on a shelf on the floor, NO comparison. The wall shelf by a country mile. So much so that there is no going back to floor shelves. Ever.

Don't be dissuaded from installing on sheetrock. I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that it'll a positive move for you.
