"I find that digital copies of LPs sound basically the same as vinyl"

actually it's even better than that. We now have some very sophisticated declicking gear that can eliminate a lot of noise without degrading the sound in any way whatsoever. And when one records an LP digitally they can do so without the speakers playing which causes some level of acoustic feedback. So really we can make superior digital copies of our vinyl.
